BAFTA Games Awards 2025 Highlights
The 21st British Academy Games Awards took place on 8th April, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
- Astro Bot emerged as the standout title, securing five awards, including Best Game and Audio Achievement.
- Still Wakes the Deep also performed notably, winning three awards, including both Performer categories.
- Helldivers 2 won two awards (Multiplayer and Music).
- Japanese composer Yoko Shimomura was honored with the BAFTA Fellowship for her significant contributions to video game music.

Nintendo Switch 2 Faces Tariff Challenges
Nintendo's announcement of the launch of Switch 2 has been overshadowed by new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. These tariffs will be likely affect supply chain, manufacture costs, and retail distribution leading to probable of delays in pre-orders. Despite these challenges, Nintendo plans to proceed with the console's launch on 5th June with a base price of $450.00

Formation of Industry-Wide Video Game Union
At the Game Developers Conference in March, a coalition of video game workers formally introduced the United Videogame Workers — an industry-wide union affiliated with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) -[UVW-CWA]. The union seeks to offer a platform for collective bargaining and advocacy around wages, benefits, job security, and workplace rights.
“The creation of this union was not done in isolation; it’s a cumulative effort by the thousands of video game workers who have been fighting for years to redefine what it means to stand together and reclaim power in one of the largest and highest-grossing industries on the globe.” Said Tom Smith (CWA’s senior director)
